Can memories be reconstructed and re-enacted live on stage? And in doing so, do they perhaps reveal more about the present than about the past? Which memories accompany us throughout our lives? Which are too painful to share? What experiences has my mother already lived through that still lie ahead of me? When do future wishes become missed opportunities? And how can remembering help us celebrate our transience and experience the present more intensely?
The theatre-makers Paula Lynn Breuer, Annakat Bano and Anela Luzi, together with the mothers of two of them, Daniela Breuer and Valentina Luzi, explore memory, ritual and legacy. How can intimate, fragile memories be re-enacted and brought back to life? Can emotions resurface when external impressions are recreated?
Based on an intensive exchange and in collaboration with the performers, Paula Lynn Breuer developed the performance text. Yet memories and dreams unfold not only through language, but also physically and sensorially: through movement, scent, sound and touch.
The re-enactments venture into the bizarre and the painful, revealing the often obsessive nature of remembering. The result is a theatrical text and a physical exploration that oscillates between fragile intimacy and formalised, abstract, at times almost clownesque moments.
